FASCIAL STRETCH THERAPY

WHAT IS FASCIAL STRETCH THERAPY (FST)?

Fascial Stretch Therapy (FST) is a method of assisted table-based stretching that targets connective tissue and joint capsules. It is kind of like doing yoga as you relax on the table - while stretching you, I guide your breathe and gentle muscle contractions. As with all manual therapy, it works mainly via the nervous system, where touching, mobilizing joints, contracting muscles, and stretching  stimulates the nerves to send signals to increase relaxation, reduce pain, and  enhance range of motion.

Lower Body: Please note that if you are looking for focused FST on your lower body (hips and legs) you should book a dedicated FST treatment, as most of the lower body techniques are challenging to do with sheets.

Upper Body: I may incorporate some upper body (back, shoulders, and neck) FST into a regular massage treatment; otherwise, it can be included as part of a dedicated FST treatment.

WHAT DOES A DEDICATED FST TREATMENT (WITH OPTIONAL MASSAGE) LOOK LIKE?

In a dedicated FST treatment you will be on the table wearing stretchy, comfortable clothing.  I will systematically move you into different positions to assess your range of motion and to mobilize and stretch your tissues. Comfortable straps are used to stabilize the rest of your body, and no sheets, blankets, or lotions are used.

Although it is relaxing, FST requires some active participation on your part, e.g.  deep breathing and gentle muscle contraction. I can also incorporate some massage through your clothing, if wanted.

A dedicated FST session is booked separately from a regular massage therapy treatment, but you will still receive an RMT receipt.
